Do the Sadduccees deserve to be seen in a more favorable light?
by True North indoes anyone remember the old joke about the sadduccees, that they didn't believe in the resurrection and that's why they were "sad-you-see"?
i think that on the whole, the sadduccees get pretty bad press from both jews and christians and i've often thought that maybe they don't entirely deserve it.
i know that they are said to have been "the establishment", collaborating with the romans and trying to keep a lid on the trouble being stirred up by the pharisees, the zealots, and the assorted messianic movements in order to preserve their own privileges and status.

Hi Leolaia ,
I really don't trust the Jewish version of events. To me, consulting a Jewish encyclopedia is like consulting a big book of lies. Jews have a colorful history of lying to Goyim (non-Jews) therefore I hold no interest in listening to what they have to say.
Besides, any group of people which tells it's followers that 'sex with little girls is ok' and 'all non Jews are animals', 'all non Jewish women are whores' and 'most non Jewish men have sex with wild animals' are not worthy of any kind of respect.

Jews complain about most things, but I am with them on this one. Who the hell do those Mormons think they are? Im glad there aren't many here in England. One lives just down the road from me actually, i'm thinking up some act of vengence.
Damn Mormons.

Driving songs
by arrowstar inplaying on the radio now is jackson browne's "running on empty".
this brought to mind all those times i would be driving back to nacogdoches on that winding texas two lane highway with the dogwoods lacing through the pines, the windows down and me singing harmony.
all the while, i'm pushing that pedal down...faster ....and faster.

Little Freedoms
by cruzanheart innow that you're no longer a jw, do you wish people "good luck" or say "bless you" when they sneeze?
wish people a "happy easter" voluntarily and not just mumble "same to you" when they wish it to you?
i do, and every time i do i get a little thrill and smile to myself because it's just one more thing i now have the freedom to do, and it's a little thing but i think it shows care and respect for my fellow humans.

Yeah, but to be honest I used to say those things anyway.
I remember a book study once, it was all about 'using lucky charms'. After the meeting, the old woman always made tea and biscuits, this time was no exception. We were debating how much sugar we each put in our tea; I said one, and then 'one for good luck'.
When I said this, the room just went deadly silent. One sarcastic elder turned to me and asked if I had taken notice of the study, or was a just daydreaming. Can you believe I lost a relationship with his daughter over that? We used to get on sooo well, but just one bad move made me into some kind of monster. Seriously, she just stopped speaking with me.
Man, I blew that one.

I just consulted the Jewish Encyclopedia
Big mistake. If I wanted the true facts, the Jewish encyclopedia would be the last place I looked.
